under the deep twist of dark,
a night unsure of end
unhinges our too rusted bodies
burning sage about our bones-
we rise to the occasion.
tracing time on our skin,
speckles of sun and silk
christening lips to glass
we melt this liberation to palatable
palindromes i’d tuck behind your
collar bone; redder now with
we coat ourselves in it.
dancing fingertips into morning
we sew this new religion into our jackets
conserving revolution for another noon

Cierra Martin is a Brooklyn based poet who doesn't like to admit she's from Staten Island. While finishing up her dual Media Criticism and English Literature degrees at Hunter College, she works as a recruitment assistant by day and performer of poetry by night. She is a Muse scholar and the recipient of the Mary McElligott award for analysis of Shakespeare's Sonnets. She believes the most essential part of her poetic journey has been in learning how to create and curate words to express herself through other channels- even if it means dancing around writing a poem she knows she should have written by now.
