✨Darlings & Lovelies, here’s a treat by Li- Young Lee to start your Friday: ▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️ From Blossoms- From blossoms comes this brown paper bag of peaches we bought from the boy at the bend in the road where we turned toward signs painted Peaches. From laden boughs, from hands, from sweet fellowship in the bins, comes nectar at the roadside, succulent peaches we devour, dusty skin and all, comes the familiar dust of summer, dust we eat. O, to take what we love inside, to carry within us an orchard, to eat not only the skin, but the shade, not only the sugar, but the days, to hold the fruit in our hands, adore it, then bite into the round jubilance of peach. There are days we live as if death were nowhere in the background; from joy to joy to joy, from wing to wing, from blossom to blossom to impossible blossom, to sweet impossible blossom. ✨Stay tuned for our Spring Gala video.❣️
✨Darlings & Lovelies, here’s a Monday night treat, by The Madame, to remind you why you should all be members of The Poetry Brothel... ▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️ It Doesn’t Hurt that She is Beautiful - As she descends into the canyon, she becomes the descent, the way an action can become solid as a steeple. I can be the downfall of man! That sunburst of flesh! For I am the moment the desert meets water from the mountains, an instant connection, a language that can travel into your memories like a fiction, like water from the earth, a landscape more various than the human heart. But she isn’t human. The way her nose comes down the center of her face like a coin, like candle wax, a waterfall. A beautiful creator. A dutiful daughter. Excitedly, she babbled, more adorable than any brook. Things come to a head. They come into it. You reach a point in your life. There is a point in every life at which you can see no further, a black hole in a bucket, & so you let it drip, clear as a window in the water. It is important to remember there are windows in the water. ▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️ Don’t you want to listen to our poetry whores utter their alchemy of words? ✨Darlings & Lovelies, it’s that time of the week again: #sexworkeradvocacy . This week we’ve got a special announcement— our West Coast Poetry Brothel has partnered with St. James Infirmary, “a peer-based occupational health and safety clinic for sex workers of all genders. It is [their] mission to meet the needs of people engaged in the sex trade through advocacy, direct services, and social justice.” These are the necessary steps that people with platforms must take in order to spread awareness on issues that are stigmatized. ✨Darlings, darlings, darlings here’s a lovely little history lesson on Lupercalia: Celebrated on February 15th, to avert evil spirits and purify the city of Rome, Lupercalia brings forth fertility and health. The festival began at Lupercal cave with the sacrifice of one or more male goats—a representation of sexuality—and a dog. Answer with us the call of the wolves on this blood-red-letting evening of mystics, mayhem, and more. Won’t you help us sanctify this sacred space of syntax and party as the Romans do? What could be more romantic? Join us at The Back Room on the 14th, darlings, for a night you’ll never forget. ❣️
✨Darlings and Lovelies, here’s a Tuesday treat by Donna Masini before you get lost in routine... ▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️ Waiting Room- My sister's inside in a green gown and I'm here twisting dread into origami tissues, riot mind ticking wrong wrong. Is this what's been waiting all along? All of us carried off on a train, pressed to a window, charting the crazy migration of cells, disaster oaring steadily after us like Magi to the babe. And time, grim monitor, screening each of us in our green toga. One day you're drinking your first martini, a minute later you're roaming some hospital wing. (Why call it a wing? Why say origami when it's a useless rag?) Now none of it matters. My iron will, impeccable timing. I think of a far-off war-torn town hiding my sister in her twin gown.

✨Darlings and Lovelies it’s that time of the week again: #sexworkeradvocacy If you swipe right you’ll see Shannon Marie Williams, a sex work activist, discussing the Sex in America survey. According to the results, 16 percent of men in the United States, pay for sex work. How is it that a service so common and desired is still facing stigmatization? Decriminalizing this work is the only way in which sex workers, especially sex workers of the LGBTQ community, could work safely and more confidently. Reporting dangerous situations should be their right, working openly should be their right and working safely and healthily should be their right because #sexworkiswork . If you know anyone who is a sex worker that is need of help let them know that G.L.I.T.S. is a wonderful resource and let them know about Shannon Marie Williams. ❣️
