CELEBRATE THE ECSTASY OF THE DREAM-STATE WITH THE POETRY BROTHEL
As the leaves start to turn, immerse yourself in the exhilirating world of The Poetry Brothel, an immersive literary cabaret. At The Poetry Brothel, a “madam” presents a rotating cast of poets, artists, and artisans who, in self-constructed characters, erupt into verse in public and lure guests into private readings. The New Yorker describes it as a place where art meets intimacy and creativity flows uninhibited.
Uninhibited Creative Expression
Central to The Poetry Brothel experience is the creation of character, serving as both disguise and freeing device for each artist. This allows a space where both artists and audience members can communicate more authentically, breaking down barriers and opening hearts.
A Diverse Cast of Artists
The artists at The Poetry Brothel come from all walks of life: women, men, folx, people of color, queer, straight, emerging, established, local, and international. Their alter-egos range from faeries and sea creatures to witches and aliens. Some artists even perform sex work in their off-hours, and The Poetry Brothel proudly supports and educates audiences about the sex industry. A portion of the evening's proceeds will go to SWOP: Behind Bars, supporting sex workers in prison.
